Who does what in Wakefield Cursillo?
This is a copy of "Who's Who" was published in November 2003 (with revisions up to Nov 2007) and is designed to help you to get to know more about Cursillo in Wakefield, especially the people who work to keep everything running.
There are lots of jobs to do (perhaps one day you may find yourself doing one of them!) and you may have heard some of the job titles mentioned during your Weekend. In this booklet you will find a brief description of each job and the name and telephone number of the person currently fulfilling that role. If you need further information about the person (address, email, church, etc.) please look them up in the directory you have been given.
Some of the people you may never have occasion to contact, others you may talk to quite often. If you are not sure who to talk to please contact Lynne Macpherson (Fourth Day Coordinator). If you are in a parish with other Cursillistas you will have a Parish Contact and s/he will see you regularly to give you Wake Up or other information and will be happy to help you in any way.
Cursillo is more than just a weekend. The ongoing life of the Cursillo Movement is equally important and we hope you will get involved as much as you feel able to do, so that you can build on what you have experienced.
British Anglican Cursillo Council
This is the co-ordinating and governing body for the Cursillo movement in Britain. It is often abbreviated to BACC. It produces a magazine called BACC Pages twice a year with news from around the country.
This is the governing body of the Cursillo movement in the Wakefield Diocese. The members of the Secretariat and their roles are as follows.
Lay Director ld@wakefieldcursillo.org Carole Hepworth The lay director is appointed by the Secretariat to serve for four years. S/he is responsible for the day to day life of the Cursillo movement in the diocese and reports to the Bishop. S/he co-ordinates the work of the different officers. S/he supports Lay Rectors after their appointment as they prepare for the Cursillo weekend. S/he seeks to promote the Cursillo movement in the diocese and maintains relationships with the wider Cursillo movement. S/he is available to all members of Cursillo in a pastoral role.
Spiritual Director sd@wakefieldcursillo.org Revd. Simon Moor The spiritual director is responsible for the spiritual aspects of Wakefield Cursillo. S/he reports to the Bishop on the work of Cursillo. S/he has pastoral responsibility for all members of Wakefield Cursillo.
Secretary secretary@wakefieldcursillo.org Jean Nelmes The secretary is responsible for the record keeping of Wakefield Cursillo. S/he minutes Secretariat meetings and distributes the minutes. S/he may attend other meetings to minute them also. S/he prepares the agenda for the AGM and makes sure reports are available in Wake Up the month before the meeting. S/he distributes the minutes of the AGM. S/he keeps BACC informed of events within Wakefield Cursillo.
Treasurer treasurer@wakefieldcursillo.org Loraine Wills The Treasurer prepares and presents a financial statement for each Secretariat meeting. S/he deals with the day to day running of all financial dealings. S/he reimburses expenses as necessary. S/he prepares and presents audited accounts to the AGM. S/he orders materials such as crosses and pilgrim’s guides from BACC. S/he works closely with the Gift Aid Officer.
4thday@wakefieldcursillo.org Lynne Macpherson The Fourth Day Coordinator is responsible for the continuity of the Fourth Day to the Lay Director and Secretariat. S/he has a vital role in helping new Cursillistas to become incorporated into the existing group. S/he encourages members to attend Seed Groups, Ultreyas and Clausuras. Communication is a major part of the role: contacting members, ensuring dates of events are known, passing on changes of details. S/he also promotes understanding of the Cursillo Movement. S/he works with a team including area reps who look after people in particular areas of the diocese.
baccrep@wakefieldcursillo.org John Speller The BACC representative ensures that the Wakefield Cursillo has a good relationship with the wider Cursillo movement. S/he also encourages members from the diocese to attend the National Ultreya and other national gatherings.
Pre-Cursillo
Coordinator Tony Macpherson The Pre-Cursillo Coordinator will co ordinate a group to promote Cursillo in the diocese and to encourage pilgrims as they prepare for the Cursillo Weekend.
Resources Stuart & Carole Kilpatrick The Resources team are exactly that - they provide all the resources required for weekends and the secretariat.
Communications
Coordinator Simon McGraw The communications coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining a variety of effective communications systems both within the Wakefield Cursillo movement and with external bodies, especially Cursillo in other diocese across the world.
Currently, there a regular newsletter aimed at the 300 or so people who have enjoyed a Wakefield Cursillo weekend experience and a web site which contains information of a more general interest.
Weekend Support
Simon McGraw - International palanca@wakefieldcursillo.org
Angela Garland-Riley The Palanca Coordinator is responsible for sending out Palanca both at home or abroad to greet members of Cursillo on their weekends. S/he also ensures that the Wakefield weekends are on the website so that anyone who wishes may send Palanca for our weekends.
vigil@wakefieldcursillo.org TBA The Prayer Vigil Co-ordinator ensures that the whole weekend is bathed in prayer. S/he draws up a list of one hour slots across the weekend with several people allocated to each slot. Those on the list are all members on the current directory except those who are staffing. Members have an opportunity, via a reminder in Wake Up, to state any times they cannot pray. Lists are distributed at the Ultreya before the weekend or by post.
Dorothy Carter Butterflies with the names of both staff and pilgrims are made to be placed on the doors at the weekend.
Joyce Wassell A stock of butterflies to hold a sweet to be placed on pillows on the weekend is created. More than are needed for a weekend can be provided and kept in store until needed.
Pamela Jessop Round metal badges are produced showing the pilgrim’s name and the Wakefield Cursillo logo. These are given to the pilgrims on their arrival on the weekend.
Colin White The Placemat Co-ordinator encourages members to make placemats during the year so that there will be a plentiful and varied selection for each weekend. It is not the responsibility of the Co-ordinator to do all the work alone.
Betty Bower The wool is crotcheted into suitable lengths to be used on the crosses presented to pilgrims at the end of their weekend.
Peter Crookes The Photographer should be present on the Sunday of the weekend to take photos of the tables and various groupings of people. S/he is responsible for producing the photos and copies are usually available at the next Ultreya so that pilgrims can have a memento of their weekend. Copies of the photos are kept to provide a permanent record of each weekend.

Parish Contacts help the Lay Director, Spiritual Director, Secretariat and Fourth Day Coordinator to keep in contact with Cursillistas and parishes. They distribute Wake Up and other letters which are usually given out at Ultreyas. They have a pastoral concern for members in their parish and inform the Lay or Spiritual Director of areas of concern. They liaise about Ultreyas in their parish. They are vital to the health and well being of the Cursillo movement in the diocese. bookings@wakefieldcursillo.org Elly McGraw The Booking Secretary takes a supply of Application and Encourager forms to each ultreya that s/he can attend and informs people that they are available. S/he sends out a letter of acknowledgement when an application is received and a copy of the form is sent to the Lay Director and the Spiritual Director. As the weekend approaches a letter is sent to the applicant giving details of where to go, when to get there and how to pay. Cheques go to the Booking Secretary and then on to the Treasurer. Any problems a pilgrim has are dealt with initially by the Booking Secretary.
Tom Daykin The Transport Co-ordinator is responsible for providing maps, to be included in Wake Up, to help members reach ultreyas. Once maps for venues have been provided spare copies will be kept for those who have lost theirs. If a new venue for an ultreya is to be used a map will be distributed to everyone. When pilgrims have completed their weekend the co-ordinator will contact them with a bank of the necessary maps. The co-ordinator will try to arrange a pool of volunteers who will take people to ultreyas.
Val West The Ultreya Co-ordinator will contact parish groups at ultreyas or by phone to arrange the months that they wish to host an ultreya. When dates are finalised these will be published in Wake Up. The ultreyas after the weekends will be in the parish of the Lay Rector. As the October ultreya combines with the AGM this should be in a different parish each year. The Ultreya Coordinator will consult with the Lay Director about the finalised list.
Roger Hanson The Gift Aid Officer works with the Treasurer to maximise income from Gift Aid. S/he prepares the Gift Aid Covenant claim.
Ailsa Wright The Prayer Chain Co-ordinator will be an active member of the prayer chain and encourage others to exercise this ministry also. S/he will ensure that new members are incorporated in the structure of the chain. S/he will publicise the existence of the prayer chain and encourage members to make use of this service when they feel the need. S/he will follow up prayer requests so that the results of prayer can be passed on to prayer chain members.
magazine@wakefieldcursillo.org Peter & Tacey Baldwin The Wake Up Editor is responsible for producing and distributing the newsletter regularly. S/he receives articles from members. S/he works closely with the Lay Director to ensure that s/he is aware of what material is available for publication. S/he carries out the Lay Director’s instructions about items of information which should be published to keep everyone informed. Wake Up is distributed to all members on the current Directory and others at the discretion of the Lay Director. The editor has a vital role to play in maintaining communication throughout the Cursillo community in the Wakefield Diocese.
directory@wakefieldcursillo.org The Directory Co-ordinator is responsible for keeping the Directory up to date. S/he arranges to collect information for a new issue of the Directory every two years. |
